This month, Lumana rolled out extensive updates across its AI, VMS+ web, and mobile applications to deliver an enhanced experience for our customers.

At Lumana, we prioritize delivering monthly product enhancements that ensure our customers benefit from a smarter, ever-evolving video security experience. Since our launch, we’ve empowered businesses across multiple industries to harness AI-driven video security, enabling faster and more accurate detection of critical events.

We’re excited to announce our September product update, which includes new AI and video management capabilities designed to elevate your experience with the Lumana platform.

Identify New Objects Across Search, Alerts, and Dashboards

Lumana can now detect additional objects, including shopping carts, animals, and new vehicle classifications such as boats, motorcycles, and bicycles. These new objects are now available across Smart Search, AI Alerts, and Dashboards, providing customers more control over how they manage their environment.

Search for new vehicle types
Create alerts using new objects
Visualize video data and create new dashboards

Shopping cart detection was a highly requested feature from our retail customers. This is beneficial in retail environments like a Costco Warehouse, where teams want to receive alerts when individuals attempt to bypass approved exits or steal merchandise without checking out. Additionally, security teams can now filter investigations by people of interest accompanied by shopping carts in Smart Search. Meanwhile, operation teams can use Dashboards to monitor how many carts are entering their stores, helping optimize store layout and performance.

Improve Alert Deliverability via Slack Integration

Lumana now integrates with Slack to enhance incident communication and response.

We are committed to partnering with innovative business technology solutions to expand our AI video security system’s capabilities. Through our camera-agnostic architecture, open APIs, and out-of-the-box integrations, Lumana can be tailored to meet your needs, both now and in the future.

Within minutes, users can connect Lumana to their Slack workspace and start receiving alerts in designated channels. This is particularly useful in collaborative environments where critical events must be communicated quickly. Alerts can now be sent across multiple platforms — email, text, Slack, and mobile — for faster incident response.

To enable the Slack integration, go to Organization Settings > Integrations and connect Slack. Once configured, users can include Slack notifications as an automated action when creating alerts. This is in addition to notifying specific individuals, triggering a speaker, pushing an API or GPIO command, and more.

Add People of Interest to the Organization Database

Multiple customers have requested the ability to add faces directly into their organization’s database from the Smart Search interface. Lumana frequently uncovers suspicious activity from unknown individuals during active investigations. With this updated workflow, users can now create alerts for specific people of interest to strengthen their physical security measures.

When Smart Search detects a face, users can add it to the organization database with a single click. Once a face is added, it can be used to create AI alerts that ensure your team is proactively addressing untrusted individuals on-premises.

In retail environments, this can be used to create face profiles for people who have shoplifted or vandalized property so that teams can receive alerts in the future to deter recurring offenses.

In educational institutions, this can help security teams identify repeat intruders to maintain safer campus environments.

Monitor Trends with Daily and Weekly Dashboard Comparisons

Lumana’s AI-powered dashboards allow organizations to leverage video data for more than just security footage. Users can now monitor security, safety, and operational trends with greater insight.

We’re excited to introduce new daily and weekly comparison capabilities in our dashboards. This feature enables users to track trends and identify shifts in the activities that matter most.

In education, security leaders can monitor how many unidentified people are on campus, comparing data with the previous day or week to assess how effective their safety strategies are in preventing security breaches.

In manufacturing, EHS leaders can measure PPE or safety compliance efforts, quickly identifying and addressing areas where safety violations may be increasing. This capability allows teams to remain proactive in maintaining and improving safety protocols.
