Search video by simply typing a few words

Most text-based video search tools are limited. They only handle basic prompts — like “man in a red shirt” or “FedEx truck.” The moment you add complexity, such as multiple attributes or behaviors, the system breaks. 

At Lumana, we took a different approach. We wanted a solution that feels as natural as searching the web or asking a colleague.

Today, we are excited to announce Text Search. This feature allows you to scrub video using natural language across all connected cameras — without spending hours digging through footage. Investigations that once took hours or even days now take seconds.

Imagine a security team at a data center trying to verify after-hours access. Instead of scrolling through hours of footage, they can simply type: “show me everyone who entered the server room last Tuesday.” With one query, they can isolate the exact clips they need.

For retail operators, Text Search makes it simple to find complex scenarios that tie directly to revenue and loss prevention. A manager can search: “an employee opening up a cash register with no customer present” to quickly identify potential collusion or fraud that traditional systems would never surface.

And in industrial environments, safety leaders can finally track compliance at scale. A search like “workers on the factory floor without helmets over the last 3 days” delivers immediate results, helping organizations identify risks proactively, improve training, and prevent costly incidents.

For the most advanced and precise searches, we still recommend using our classic Smart Search interface. It allows for deeper granularity and delivers results even faster. However, Text Search allows a new level of flexibility, empowering users to search their video data with whatever method works best for them.

To try Text Search: navigate to the Smart Search interface, select “Switch to text search” in the top-right corner, and type your query.

Verified response and emergency dispatch when it matters most

Most video security systems stop at basic object detection. They trigger alerts for motion, people, or vehicles — but verifying the incident and coordinating response is left to your team. This wastes precious minutes in situations where every second matters. At Lumana, we wanted to close that gap and are proud to announce our new Alarm Monitoring product offering.

With Alarm Monitoring, critical alerts are sent directly to our monitoring center, where trained professionals verify incidents in real time. Once confirmed, emergency responders are dispatched immediately.

Imagine a late-night break-in at a retail store. Instead of staff receiving an alert, reviewing footage, and calling the police, our monitoring center verifies the event and dispatches law enforcement instantly — minimizing loss and protecting employees.

We’ve unlocked the full potential of fisheye cameras on Lumana with live dewarping, immersive view, and tile view. Now you can digitally pan, tilt, zoom, and leverage a 360° view to detect events in real time, giving teams more situational awareness without extra hardware or complexity.

Picture a hotel lobby or airport terminal where a single fisheye camera covers an entire entrance. Instead of viewing warped video, security operators can move the camera view effortlessly with immersive view or view video across 2, 3, or 4 tiles — effectively transforming the single fisheye into multiple cameras.

Review large amounts of footage in minutes with Timelapse

Timelapse capabilities are now available, transforming days' worth of footage into a concise, high-speed summary. Get instant visual context on how activity evolves over time without the manual effort.

For construction teams, timelapse provides a clear visual record of progress that can be shared with stakeholders or used for compliance reporting. In retail, managers can generate timelapses of customer traffic to analyze store flow patterns, staffing needs, or promotional impact. In education or healthcare, timelapse video helps facilities teams review building usage and adjust operations accordingly.

See and hear the complete picture with audio support

Lumana now supports audio recording and playback across both live and archived video. Organizations can enable or disable recording at the organization or camera level, giving them complete flexibility and control.
